Why Recycle?

a few facts about scrap |
|
| |
Recycling is good for the Earth and good for future generations.
Recycling is the act of processing used or abandoned materials,
which would otherwise be considered waste, for use in creation of
new products and goods. Many everyday goods can be recycled,
including automotive equipment, batteries, construction equipment,
electronics, glass, metal, paper, organics, plastic, and paint
products. Many communities have curbside recycling services to help
out and there are recycling centers all across the country where
items can be brought. Often times recycling centers pay you for
dropping recyclable goods off, so it’s a win-win situation.
In 1999, recycling and composting prevented over 60 million
tons of materials from ending up in landfills. Today, the U.S.
recycles over 28% of all its wastes, a number which has doubled in
the past fifteen years. 42% of all paper, 40% of all plastic
bottles, 55% of all drink cans, and 52% of all major appliances are
now recycled.
